Mykonos Riviera Hotel, New Port
Our visit to Greece was not at all what we had planned, but it was made into a stay that was even better than expected, all thanks to the incredible staff at Mykonos Riviera Hotel in New Port.
Originally, we had booked a week-long boat tour through the Greek Islands, planning to meet our tour group at lunchtime. Arriving in Mykonos at sunrise, tired and hungry, we ventured toward our rendezvous point. Since we had half a day to spare, we decided to ask a nearby hotel if we could come in to order some food and freshen up, to which our request was met with a disappointing no. Undeterred, we approached Mykonos Riviera, expecting a similar response due to its upscale appearance, but they welcomed us with open arms!
Our departure from the stunning resort and its warm-hearted staff was bittersweet when it was time to join our tour group. However, we then discovered our original boat had mechanical issues, leaving us with an unsatisfactory alternative & a traumatic experience. Opting for a full refund on our tour, the Mykonos Riviera staff went above and beyond, sending a driver to collect us and welcoming us back with refreshments and cold face towels. They not only extended our stay by five nights but also generously upgraded our room and offered a complimentary night.
The room itself was as heavenly as the rest of the resort! The bed was divine, the balcony offered breathtaking views of the pool and ocean, and the private rooftop terrace boasted a hot tub and two sun loungers—a luxurious touch to an already incredible experience.
Each morning we enjoyed the included buffet breakfast and sat at a table overlooking the pool. I will forever dream of the coffee here – the Freddo Espresso was incredible.
While we wanted to explore the island the resort was almost too good to leave! The setting, food & drinks and our new friends who worked there made staying in Mykonos one of the highlights of our trip.
Sunset from our rooms rooftop terrace.
The dining area & the bar where we had a fantastic time with our new friends who worked here.
Our hot tub on the terrace was the perfect place to enjoy the last of the daylight before getting ready for dinner.
If you are thinking of visiting Mykonos, Mykonos Riviera is a hotel I would highly recommend and one I am excited to stay at again in the future!
A Day on the Water with Mykonos Catamaran
Having missed out on our originally planned boat tour, we decided to book a day out on the water with Mykonos Catamaran, a gem recommended by our hotel. We opted for the 5-hour “Apollo Cruise,” which took us on a sun soaked journey to the stunning islands of Rhenia and Delos.
We were cooked a delicious Mediterranean lunch on board, surrounded by the breathtaking seascape.
The tour included refreshing stops for swims at both islands, complete with provided noodles and snorkel gear. The swim stops were the highlight for me, I had the most fun jumping off the boat and swimming in the stunning crystal blue water.
Soaking up the sunshine on the front of the boat was divine.
On our journey back to Mykonos, a beautiful sunset provided the perfect finishing touch to a day filled with sea, sun, and unforgettable moments.
180 Sunset Bar
We ventured to the 180 Degree Sunset Bar one evening after it was recommended by some locals. Positioned perfectly to capture the descent of the sun, the bar provided a 180-degree view of the coast. As we settled into the vibrant atmosphere, the sky began its spectacular transformation, painting the horizon with hues of amber and gold.
Sipping on cocktails, we watched the sun’s slow descent cast a warm glow over the iconic windmills and ocean below. The ambiance at the 180 Degree Sunset Bar was pure magic, making it an ideal setting to witness one of the most stunning sunsets imaginable.
Exploring Old Port
Exploring the Old Port in Mykonos was like stepping into a postcard-perfect Mediterranean dream. We wandered through the labyrinthine streets lined with charming shops, where the boutiques offered an array of local treasures, from handmade jewellery to vibrant textiles. It was a shopper’s paradise against the backdrop of whitewashed buildings and cobblestone streets.
Negrita is a bar in a beautiful spot on the water, and we visited a few times. The atmosphere was lively and contagious, with a blend of locals and visitors immersing themselves in the vibrant energy.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, there was no shortage of cozy bars and restaurants to visit that dotted the waterfront. Each establishment seemed to have its own story to tell, offering a mix of delicious Greek cuisine, refreshing cocktails, and live music.
The Old Port of Mykonos exuded a timeless charm that seamlessly blended history with the contemporary, and exploring it was a truly enchanting experience.
